Aspen Lake Fishery (Ashton Keynes) is a prestigious fishing club located in Swindon, NZ. The fishery boasts two main lakes: the Carp & Course Fish Lake and the newly formed and stocked 10 swim Match Lake. It is a Syndicate Fishery, and those interested in becoming a member must apply and, if accepted, pay a membership fee of 460 for 12 months.
Membership payment can be made at any time throughout the year, as long as there are available spots, and will grant individuals access to both the main carp lake and the day ticket match lake. Day ticket options are only available for the match lake and cost 6. 00 per day for one rod or 10. 00 per day for two rods.
The main lake was stocked in the winter of 2005/2006 with 100 Mirror Carp, ranging from 4lb to 6lb. These carp have since grown to impressive sizes, with catches recorded weighing up to 45lb 2oz. Additionally, the lake was stocked with two hundred 6 to 8-inch Tench, as well as twenty 5lb Tench from Horseshoe Lake at Lechlade. The Tench record on the lake currently stands at 10lb 7oz.
Other fish species stocked include two hundred Crucian Carp (now up to 3lb 6oz), two hundred Bream (now up to 14lb 7oz), and thirty Chub.
Although there are no inlets into the lake, other fish species have naturally made their way into the fishery. These include Roach up to 2lb 8oz, Rudd up to 2lb, Perch up to 3lb 5oz, Pike up to 12lb (and possibly even larger), and Common Carp up to an impressive 33lb 3oz.
Aspen Lake Fishery offers 32 swims on the main lakes, with no day tickets issued. The 10 swim Match Lake has recently been shallowed to a depth of 6ft and stocked with 650 mixed Rudd and Roach, 350 Crucian Carp, 400 Bream, and an abundance of small Tench and large Tench up to 7lb. The Match Lake features ropes across it, serving as a deterrent for Cormorants. These ropes have effectively kept Cormorants away from the lake, without impacting the fishing experience.
The 10 swims on the Match Lake can be booked for the day at a price of 60. 00. Alternatively, individuals are welcome to fish on their own or with a smaller group for 6. 00 per angler with one rod per day or 10.
00 with two rods.
