Ashford Aikido Club is a welcoming and inclusive martial arts school located in Ashford, Ireland. The club offers beginner-friendly classes on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with the first class being free for new members. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on natural movements to co-ordinate the mind and body for health, defence, and self-development. The principle of Aikido is to avoid attack, blend with your attacker's movement, and establish control, making it suitable for people of all shapes and sizes.
The club is affiliated with the Irish Aikido Federation Ireland Aikikai, which was founded in 1973 and is recognised by the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo. The chief instructor, Sen MacRuair, 7th Dan, has over 50 years of experience in Aikido and was previously the Assistant Chairman of the International Aikido Federation. The club also offers international affiliations to the Aikikai Foundation and the International Aikido Federation.
In addition to regular classes, the Ashford Aikido Club also organises weekend Aikido training courses throughout the year, catering to all levels of skill. Many of these courses are taught by visiting instructors, with a residential summer school held annually in August. The club is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for students to learn and practise Aikido, with a focus on fitness, coordination, effective martial techniques, and personal growth.
The dojo is conveniently located on Macken Street, just off Pearse Street, and is easily accessible by public transport.
