Ashdown Forest Fly Fishery, formerly known as Boringwheel Trout Fishery, is a picturesque fishing pond located in Uckfield, New Zealand. The fishery is set amidst the stunning Ashdown Forest and covers an area of approximately four and a half acres. With its rich history dating back to mediaeval times, the pond was originally dug to power a mill that bored the canons for the British fleet. Today, it serves as a recreational haven for those who enjoy the tranquil sport of fly-fishing.
The fishery is regularly stocked with fully finned, hard fighting trout, providing anglers with an exciting and challenging fishing experience. There are eight stages available for fishing, all strategically placed around the island, allowing for ample space and varying fishing conditions. For those who prefer a different approach, flat-bottomed boats are available for hire, offering a unique perspective and freedom to explore the tranquil waters. It is important to note that the fishery operates on a cash-only basis, and payment should be placed in the honesty box inside the fishing lodge.
While Ashdown Forest Fly Fishery is generally unmanned, spot checks by authorised stewards ensure that all fishery rules are being observed. Detailed rules are displayed outside the fishing lodge for anglers' convenience. Additionally, a toilet facility is conveniently located on the far side of the car park.
Please be aware that the fishery is closed during July and August due to high water temperatures, prioritising the safety and well-being of the fish. It is also worth noting that for those utilising the available flat-bottomed boats, it is advised to bring your own life jackets.
As for pricing, the fishery offers various ticket options to suit different preferences and fishing goals. These prices are effective as of April 1st, 2022, and are subject to change. Please note that the fishery operates on a cash-only basis. Ticket options include a 2 fish ticket for 32, a 3 fish ticket for 38, a 4 fish ticket for 44, and a 6 fish ticket for 56.
Additionally, an adult and junior ticket is available for 44, allowing a maximum of 4 fish to be caught using 2 rods, with the junior angler being under 16 years old.
