The club's rich history adds to its charm and character. Initially established in 1895, it played at various locations within Ashburton until 1953 when it purchased land to develop the current Brandon location. The course has undergone notable alterations and improvements over the years, including the elimination of a short par 3 hole, extensions, and realignment of certain holes, and the introduction of new holes. The construction of a new clubhouse in 1963 further enhanced the facilities at the club.
The name Brandon comes from Mr. Jack Brand, who joined the club in 1950 and played a significant role in the development of the new course. As a show of appreciation for his contributions, the members decided to name the course Brandon in his honour.
Ashburton Golf Club offers a welcoming and enjoyable golfing experience for players of all levels. With its well-maintained course, excellent facilities, and stunning location, it is a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts in the Canterbury region.
