The roots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be traced back to the early 20th century, with the teachings of individuals such as Geo Omori and Mitsuyo Maeda. Maeda, in particular, played a pivotal role in spreading Jiu-Jitsu to Brazil, where it was further developed by individuals like Carlos Gracie and Hlio Gracie. The Gracie family's lineage has become synonymous with BJJ, although other prominent lineages, such as that of Oswaldo Fadda, have also made significant contributions to the art.

The name “Jiu-Jitsu” is an older romanization that was commonly used in the West, with the modern Hepburn romanization being “jjutsu. “ The distinction between Jiu-Jitsu and Judo was clarified by Professor Kano, who emphasized the technical differences between the two disciplines. Despite some confusion over terminology, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become a globally recognized martial art, known for its emphasis on ground fighting and grappling techniques.

At Arena BJJ, students have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors, develop their skills, and engage in a challenging yet rewarding training environment. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or a complete beginner, Arena BJJ welcomes you to join their community and experience the benefits of this traditional martial art. Embrace the journey of self-discovery, discipline, and growth with Arena BJJ in Montreal.
