Pip Archer, with his extensive experience in the saddlery industry, established a successful manufacturing saddlery business in Mount Barker, Adelaide Hills in 1976. After selling the business in 1990, he focused on developing a horse rug manufacturing business specialising in made-to-measure canvas rugs. It was during this time that he and Jil developed their famous Archer Saddle Pads, which have become the cornerstone of their business.
Jil Bourton, a passionate equestrienne since a young age, has competently participated in various equestrian activities throughout her life. Drawing inspiration from her English ancestor, who settled in the Swan Valley in the 1800s, Jil's natural abilities and love for horses led her to discover endurance riding in the early '80s. By the end of the decade, Jil and Pip had achieved their first Quilty buckles together in 1990. Over the years, Jil has ridden nearly 25,000 km on many horses, with the majority being horses they have bred.
The creation of the Archer saddle pads stemmed from a need to move away from traditional “bound” saddle blankets that were not suited for longer distance rides. Jil's experience prompted her to design a saddle pad that would provide superior comfort and support for endurance riders. Since then, the Archer saddle pads have gained international recognition and have become highly respected in the equestrian community.
