Welcome to the Amy Hackett School of Dance, a friendly and inclusive dance school located in Southsea, Hampshire. Established in 2009, our school aims to provide a fun and thorough teaching experience in a variety of dance styles. We believe that learning dance is an invaluable skill for children in their early development and beyond, offering them the opportunity to express themselves through movement while also developing physical coordination, fitness, strength, good posture, and an elegant poise.
Our school's founder and principal, Amy Williams (ne Hackett), holds a degree in Ballet Education from the Royal Academy of Dance and a Masters degree in Contemporary Dance Performance from the University of Chichester. Amy has extensive experience teaching children from 18 months to vocational students and adults across London, Surrey, Sussex, and Hampshire.
At the Amy Hackett School of Dance, we offer a range of classes to cater to different age groups and levels of experience. Children can join our uniquely constructed Fairy Footsteps classes from the age of 18 months, providing a fun introduction to classical ballet through storytelling, props, and creative play. Fairy Footsteps ballet classes are split into three age levels: Mummy and Me ballet (18 months-2. 5yrs), where parents actively participate in the class to build their child's confidence; Carer/toddler ballet (2.
5-3. 5yrs), a simple and relaxed class where parents can watch their child dance independently; and Pre-school ballet (3. 3-4. 5yrs), a more structured class where children attend alone with parents watching from the waiting room.
Additionally, we offer Pre-school tap (3. 5-4. 5yrs), a story-based class that incorporates tap dancing for a different quality of movement and rhythm.
Once children start school, they can join our Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet syllabus classes. These classes follow the renowned RAD syllabus, which provides stimulating ballet classes that work on key technical elements. The syllabi align with the National Curriculum and offer internationally recognised exam standards. The classes start with Pre-Primary level for 4-5 year olds and progress to Primary level, Grade 1, Grade 2, and beyond, including vocational levels for students who wish to pursue advanced training.
For school-age children, we also offer Modern Theatre dance classes following the International Society of the Teachers of Dance (ISTD) syllabus. This rhythmic and highly energetic dance style originated in America and has since spread worldwide.
We believe in creating a supportive and welcoming environment where students can learn and grow. Through our classes, students have the opportunity to build confidence, develop their dance skills, make new friends, and discover a lifelong love for dance. Whether your child is just starting their dance journey or has previous experience, our dedicated teachers are passionate about nurturing their potential and helping them reach their goals.
