The grading syllabus allows students to attain belts upon successfully passing grade examinations.

Since 1996, the academy has been associated with Joe Tierney's 'Shorai International' organisation. 'Shorai International' is a National Body for Martial Arts clubs, representing various styles including jujitsu, karate, freestyle, mixed martial arts, and kickboxing. This affiliation allows the academy to share experiences and knowledge with other member clubs and benefit from the expertise of Joe Tierneya highly respected figure with over 35 years of involvement in the sport.

In collaboration with the Rossendale Alive Communities team, Alf's Blackbelt Academy actively encourages the people of Rossendale to engage in leisure activities. As part of this initiative, the academy offers two free introductory lessons without obligation to anyone interested in joining.
