About the personal growth, character development, and achievement of the individual diver. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment for divers of all ages and skill levels.
As a Swim England Diving Development Centre, Albatross Diving Club is committed to spotting local diving talent and nurturing their skills. We are especially proud of our success in developing Chris Mears, a current GB Senior Dive Team Member and Olympic Gold Medallist.
We offer a variety of diving programmes, including our START Diving sessions for beginners and our competitive squad programme for more experienced divers. Our fees start at 30 per month for half-hour learn to dive sessions, available throughout the year. We also offer community learn to dive sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at Abbey School.
Our competitive squads receive additional training sessions, including dry training at our Rivermead facility and highboard training in Southampton. We compete at both regional and national levels, from Skills competitions all the way to GB Junior Elite. Divers who meet competition conditions also have the opportunity to compete in international events.
Albatross Diving Club is part of the Southeast Regional Network of diving clubs, which supports the development of divers and coaches at all levels. Our club is dedicated to providing opportunities for diver and coach development, from grassroots diving to talent selection and training.
While we currently do not have adult diving, we expect to offer this option starting in May 2023.
At Albatross Diving Club, the safety of our members is our top priority. All of our coaches are fully qualified and have additional certifications in lifesaving, gymnastics, trampolines, and rig work. Our adult coaches have undergone DBS checks and have attended workshops on safeguarding and protecting children in sport. We have been awarded Swim Mark accreditation from Swim England for our commitment to child safety.
We have an active squad of approximately 30 competitive members and over 40 members involved in our Learn to Dive and Masters Diving programmes. Our squad divers range in age from 5 years old and train up to 5 times a week. The club was founded in 1978 by Anne Green Jessel, our current Club President, and has over 40 years of experience in nurturing diving talent.
Albatross Diving Club of Reading is dedicated to the advancement of excellence in diving and the personal fulfilment and achievement of all those involved. We believe that diving is not just about winning competitions, but also about personal growth, resilience, and the joy of the sport. Join us and dive safe with Albatross Diving Club.
