Learn to dance Lindy Hop with Corner Pocket Swing! Corner Pocket Swing is hosting Level 1 Lindy Hop Swing Dance classes, perfect for those looking to dive into the world of partnered dancing.
Lindy Hop, originating from Harlem, New York, is the most popular partnered dance style of the 1930s and 40s. It's a vibrant and impressive dance form rooted in authentic vintage jazz movement. Get ready to showcase your skills with flashy swing-outs and Charleston kicks!
The classes are designed to be accessible to everyone, as they follow a drop-in style format. That means you can start at Level 1 any week, regardless of your dance experience. No prior knowledge is required! We encourage participants to bring a friend along and try out different roles – partners will be rotated throughout the class.
Join us at Albany Creek Community Centre, which is conveniently located at 15 Ernie Street, Albany Creek QLD 4035. The cost for adults is $19, but concession card holders can enjoy a reduced rate of $16. If you prefer to pay at the door, please note that an additional $1 fee will apply.
To qualify for the concession rate, please make sure you have one of the following cards: Full-Time Student Card, Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.
In terms of attire, comfort is key! Wear clothes that allow for easy movement and don't worry too much about sweating. It's recommended to wear comfortable shoes that provide good grip on the dance floor. Our venue features a slightly sprung timber floor with medium grip, and the room is well air-conditioned for your comfort.
When it comes to partnered swing dancing, there are two roles to choose from: Lead and Follow. These roles aren't gender-specific, so feel free to pick the one that resonates with you. The class focuses on maintaining a balanced mix of roles, allowing participants to dance with multiple partners through rotation.
During the class, you can expect a warm-up session involving solo movements to music. Following that, our experienced instructors will teach a footwork pattern that serves as the foundation for additional moves taught throughout the class. We encourage students to support and provide positive feedback to one another, and our teachers are always there to address any questions or concerns that may arise.
To foster a smooth learning experience, more experienced students or extra teachers may join the class. This ensures that the number of leads and follows remains balanced and helps the class progress at a faster pace.
As we navigate the current times, we kindly ask all attendees to adhere to our event's COVID-19 Policy and Code of Conduct.
