Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide is a martial arts school located in Aldinga, South Australia. As part of the Iwama Shinshin Aiki Shurenkai organisation, the dojo is headed by sensei Hitohira Saito. The school offers training in Aikido, a Japanese martial art that focuses on redirecting the energy and momentum of an attack rather than engaging in direct confrontation.
The dojo provides a positive pressure environment where students can develop resilience and a dynamic response to conflict. The training encourages individuals to support each other in their journey to become their best selves. By participating in Aikido, students can improve their physical and mental conditioning, enabling them to assume control of their situations without resorting to violence.
Aikido at Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide encompasses a comprehensive system of techniques, including throwing, joint-locking, striking, and pinning. Additionally, students also receive training in traditional Japanese weapons such as the sword, staff, and knife. This holistic approach ensures that students develop a well-rounded understanding and mastery of the art.
The lineage of Aikido at Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide can be traced back to its founder, Morihei Ueshiba, also known as O'Sensei. Born in 1883, O'Sensei experienced a great spiritual enlightenment that greatly enhanced his martial art skills. He went on to establish Aikido and promoted it throughout Japan and abroad until his passing in 1969.
Morihiro Saito Sensei, O'Sensei's longest-serving student, played a pivotal role in systematising Aikido and developing a vast weapons system within the art. He trained with O'Sensei for 23 years and cared for him until his passing. Saito Sensei's dedication to preserving O'Sensei's teachings and spreading Aikido worldwide has greatly influenced the Aikido style practised at Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide.
Currently, the head of Iwama Shinshin Aiki Shuren Kai is Hitohira Saito Sensei, the son of Morihiro Saito Sensei. Under his leadership, Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide continues to uphold the values and teachings of Aikido, providing a nurturing and supportive environment for students to grow both physically and mentally.
If you're looking to experience the benefits of Aikido, Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide welcomes beginners of all ages to join their classes.
