Completed his studies in Physics but also obtained his 1st Dan black belt in Aikido. Jeff's passion for Aikido led him to deepen his understanding of the art, and he travelled to Japan to train at the prestigious Kobayashi dojos.
After several years of dedicated practise, Jeff was awarded his 5th Dan Aikikai by Hiroaki Kobayashi Sensei. With his extensive experience and knowledge, Jeff became the Dojo-Cho (chief instructor) of Aikido Tenchikan Dojo in Bristol.
As the head instructor, Jeff is dedicated to preserving the martial art of Aikido and the teaching style of Kobayashi dojos. He is a firm believer in the lifelong study and development that Aikido requires and regularly attends seminars and courses in Japan and Europe to further his own training.
Jeff's teaching approach is focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. He believes that the hardest part of starting something new is taking that first step, and at Aikido Tenchikan Dojo, their aim is to make that step as easy as possible. With the help of the instructor and fellow students, newcomers can expect a structured class that includes warm-ups, basic exercises, techniques, and even weapons training with wooden swords or staffs.
The dojo is open to everyone over the age of 18 who is interested in practising traditional Aikikai Aikido. Aikido Tenchikan Dojo is a fully insured member of the British Aikido Board, ensuring a high standard of training and instruction. Additionally, the dojo holds regular Aikido courses in Bristol and Bath, providing ample opportunities for members to deepen their practise.
Aikido Tenchikan Dojo takes pride in its connexion to the Kobayashi dojos in Japan and Europe. Regular seminars with senior teachers from Kobayashi dojos are offered, giving students the chance to learn from experienced practitioners and develop their Aikido skills.
The dojo also organises annual international Yudansha (black belt) examinations under the direction of Hiroaki Kobayashi Sensei. These examinations are certified and registered by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, Hombu Dojo Japan, adding prestige and recognition to those who pass.
