About physical techniques, but also about developing a strong mind and positive character. It teaches self-defence, self-discipline, and cultivates inner peace and harmony.
Aikido Derby is a small and friendly club situated in Derby city centre. Led by experienced sensei and supported by more experienced students, the club welcomes beginners of all levels. Whether you have previous martial arts experience or are completely new to the practise, Aikido Derby provides a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.
Classes take place every Sunday at 6 PM and last for approximately 2 hours. The cost is 8 per adult and 5 per child. As Aikido is based on using an opponent's strength against them, physical strength is not a requirement to begin training. The techniques taught in Aikido focus on blending with the attacker's motion and redirecting their force, rather than meeting force with force.
Aikido Derby emphasises the importance of using Aikido principles and techniques in everyday life, as advocated by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. Ueshiba believed that Aikido should strengthen our life force and be applicable in our daily lives. The club's aim is to help students apply Aikido principles beyond the dojo, enabling personal growth and self-improvement.
The club is located in Derby Martial Art Centre, on the top floor, at The Strand, DE1 1BE. The facility provides a suitable and safe training space for Aikido practise. It is recommended to wear sporty, long trousers and a comfortable t-shirt during training sessions.
Aikido Derby has an active presence on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and WhatsApp. These platforms provide additional information about the club, including photos and videos from previous classes. It is a great way to get a sense of the club's atmosphere and community before joining in.
If you are considering joining Aikido Derby, the club invites you to attend a class and experience the benefits of Aikido for yourself. With a focus on physical and mental training, Aikido Derby aims to help individuals improve their fitness levels, build confidence, and enhance mobility. Beginners are always warmly welcomed, and the club is dedicated to supporting each student's journey in Aikido.
