Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra is a traditional Aikido school located in Lyons, Canberra. It is part of Aiki Kai Australia, the mainstream Aikido Association in Australia recognised by the International Aikido Federation with direct linkages to Hombu Dojo in Japan. Aiki Kai Australia operates as a not-for-profit organisation, with the aim of making Aikido study available and sharing it with the community.
The Lyons Dojo is run as a traditional dojo, offering mixed ability classes for students of all levels. The classes are led by experienced instructor Hanan Janiv Shihan, who holds a 7th Dan ranking. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra caters to your needs with introductory to advanced training available.
Prospective students are encouraged to visit the Dojo to observe classes and have a conversation with the instructor or senior students to learn more about training with Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra. Prior to starting training, it is recommended that all students watch a class to familiarise themselves with the practise. The dojo also regularly runs courses designed specifically for beginners, offering a structured introduction to Aikido.
Aikido training at Aiki Kai Canberra goes beyond physical techniques. It also focuses on mental and philosophical aspects, aiming to foster personal growth and self-development. While the techniques taught are based on self-defence movements, the primary purpose of Aikido is not to defeat or injure others.
Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra offers two courses for beginners: Introduction to Aikido and Aikido Beginners Course. The Introduction to Aikido course is a short course held over six sessions on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 7:15pm, providing an exploration of this non-competitive martial art. The Aikido Beginners Course is a six-week programme with up to three training sessions per week. The course covers a variety of techniques, principles, and philosophies of Aikido, led by senior qualified instructors.
Participants also have the opportunity to train with experienced black belts.
The classes for the Aikido Beginners Course are held on Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Saturdays from 9:00am to 10:00am (outdoor weapons class), and Sundays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. The training takes place at the Lyons Dojo, located at Lyons Scout Hall on Tooms Place, Lyons.
To participate in the Aikido Beginners Course, interested individuals can register by sending an email to actinfo@aikido. Org. au. The course fee covers up to three classes per week for six weeks, as well as an introductory membership (three months) of Aiki Kai Australia, the national accredited Aikido organisation in Australia with direct affiliation to the world headquarters of Aikido, Hombu Dojo in Japan.
The pricing options for the course are as follows: adults ($125), family (2 or more people, $175), students/juniors 16+ /concession ($70).
