Training sessions at the centre cover four essential areas. First, the focus is on mental development—boosting confidence, instilling discipline, and crafting a personal philosophy. Next, the centre emphasises stand-up techniques, covering everything from punching and kicking to self-defence. Groundwork is another critical aspect, with students learning vital skills for any situation where they might find themselves on the ground. Finally, UFS ensures students are trained in weapons defence, paying particular attention to knife defence given the current climate.
Andy Gibney, a seasoned martial artist and a three-time Hall of Fame inductee, leads the centre. The coaching team is second to none, featuring world champions and specialists in groundwork, ensuring students learn from the best.
The facility itself is impressive, boasting over 2000 square feet of matted flooring and equipped with focus pads, kickshields, and punchbags. Students can bring their own gear or make use of the equipment provided.
