The African Hockey Association (AHA) in Ottawa is dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment for marginalized youths to learn and participate in ice hockey. Recognizing the financial barriers and racial discrimination that can prevent some youth from playing the sport, the AHA aims to break down these barriers and make hockey accessible to all.
The idea for the AHA was born out of a desire to provide opportunities for Ottawa's youth to participate in hockey, despite the high costs associated with the sport. Generous contributions from individuals and organizations, such as Steve Leon District Business Manager at Merck Pharmaceuticals, have made it possible for the AHA to offer free ice time and equipment to participants.
The program is led by dedicated individuals, including Nicholas Ngwafusi, a former Telus Cup Finalist, and Godlove Ngwafusi, the general manager of the African Hockey Association. Their vision is to increase diversity and inclusion in hockey by encouraging parents to enroll their children in the program and fostering a sense of community among racialized players.
If you're looking for a welcoming and supportive environment for your child to learn and play ice hockey, consider enrolling them in the African Hockey Association today. Join us in breaking down barriers and promoting diversity in Canada's national winter sport.
