Let's dive into what makes the HMAS Swan Wreck experience so captivating. This relatively easy wreck dive is suitable for beginners, as it was intentionally sunk for scuba diving purposes. Located at a depth of 30 metres, it promises an unforgettable underwater adventure.
While exploring the HMAS Swan Wreck, you will be amazed by the careful preparation done for divers. The vessel features numerous holes cut into its side, allowing for easy access. The wreck's bottom is at 30 meters, with the bridge at 12 meters and the tower just 6 meters below the surface. During your dive, you might encounter large Samson Fish, dew fish, and even a small, harmless hammerhead shark. Keep your eyes open for schools of batfish around the mast, as well as a friendly wobbegong shark near the rear of the ship. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of whales swimming in the nearby ocean.
To kickstart your diving course, you will begin at Canal Rocks, a semi-protected bay. This area serves as the ideal location for buoyancy and navigational dives. Not only will you be surrounded by abundant fish life, including sharks and dolphins, but you may also have the chance to marvel at the enchanting whale song. The buoyancy dive will allow you to adjust your weights and finesse your buoyancy control using your lungs. Afterward, you'll explore part of the bay and visit the honeycomb reef, putting your maneuvering skills to the test. The second dive focuses on navigation, teaching you various formations with the help of a compass and fin counts. These newfound skills will be transferred to the ocean, where you'll practice natural navigation under the guidance of your instructor.
Another highlight of this incredible course is the opportunity to dive at the Busselton Jetty. Stretching an impressive 1.8 km, this wooden piled jetty is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. As Australia's largest artificial reef, it is home to over 300 species of marine life, including vibrant coral. Divers of all levels will enjoy exploring the jetty, as the maximum depth is just 9m. Alongside the pylons, you may come across fascinating creatures such as sea horses, boxfish, old wives, Australian tailor, buffalo bream, yellowtail, bullseye, trevally, Port Jackson sharks, fiddler rays, stingrays, cuttlefish, octopus, hermit crabs, nudibranchs, and cowries. There is even a chance of seals paying a visit. Moreover, the Busselton Jetty is famous for its stunning underwater art sculptures, submerged since May 2023, which have transformed into a sanctuary for local marine life.
