Adelaide Takemusu Aikido Club (Adl. Hills) is a martial arts school located in Crafers, South Australia. The club offers classes for adults, children, and youth throughout the year. The primary focus of the club is on practising Aikido, a martial art that serves as a tool for personal development on all levels.
Aikido is practised at the club to help individuals feel good, increase their confidence, strengthen themselves physically and mentally, and constantly challenge themselves. Above all, Aikido is practised because it is fun and enjoyable.
The club follows the traditional style of Aikido as perpetuated by Ulf Evens Shihan. The study of Aikido at Adelaide Takemusu Aikido Club includes a comprehensive range of techniques in taijutsu (open-handed technique), bokken (wooden sword), and jo (wooden staff). The practise is focused on being martially effective without relying on strength or resorting to damaging an opponent.
The club actively promotes self-defence and many individuals start practising Aikido with the aim of learning self-defence. Aikido is considered a very effective self-defence system, and most practitioners feel safer after a workout. However, as one continues to practise Aikido, they discover that there is much more to it than just self-defence.
Practising Aikido has numerous benefits, including contributing to an improved state of being and overall wellness. It acts as a stress-reducing physical activity, helping individuals manage everyday stress and improve their health. Many practitioners find Aikido training as a perfect way to relax physically and mentally after a stressful day. The practise helps in developing physical balance, flexibility, breath control, strength, and endurance.
In addition to the physical benefits, Aikido also promotes personal development. The basic principles of Aikido focus on establishing and maintaining a stable and centred state of being. Ongoing practise in achieving and maintaining this state provides individuals with tools that are relevant and applicable to daily life.
Adelaide Takemusu Aikido Club is proud to be a not-for-profit association and operates as a Member Dojo of the Australian Takemusu Aikido Renmei Inc. The club is also a proud sponsor of the Pink Belt Project, which provides women in need, particularly those healing from domestic abuse or sexual assault, with a one-year scholarship to train for free at their local martial arts club.
If interested in trying Aikido, individuals are welcome to contact the club's Head Instructor, Peter Noble, or simply show up for practise. The club welcomes new members of all ages and experience levels.
