Group is open to everyone, regardless of their fitness level. Some people may prefer to walk at a faster pace, while others may prefer a slower, more leisurely stroll. We encourage walkers to find a pace that is comfortable for them and enjoy the experience at their own speed.
3. On average, about fifteen people attend our walks. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends within the LGBTIQ community.
4. Walkers in our group range in age from their twenties to their sixties. We have a diverse and welcoming community that embraces people of all ages.
5. Unfortunately, our walks are open to participants who are 18 years old and above.
6. For the first Sunday of the month walks, participants meet at CIBO café, located at 199 Hutt Street, Adelaide. We gather at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am departure. Participants usually enjoy a cup of coffee before starting the walk and sometimes arrange carpooling to the walk location.
For Saturday walks, participants meet directly at the location, which can be found on our programme page.
7. To stay informed about upcoming walks, events, and updates, please visit our Programme and Q&A pages on our website. You can also follow us on Facebook for regular updates and announcements.
8. Our walks are graded based on difficulty levels. An “easy” walk is suitable for all fitness levels and has minimal challenges. A “medium” walk requires a moderate level of fitness and may involve some uphill sections or uneven terrain.
A “hard” walk is more physically demanding and may include steep climbs or long distances. It's important to choose a walk that matches your fitness level and abilities.
9. The Adelaide Happy Wanderers is a non-profit organisation, and there is no fee to join our walks. We strive to keep our walks accessible to all members of the community.
10. We meet on the first Sunday of every month, except for January and December. The walks usually take 2–3 hours to complete, including breaks, and participants are usually back in the city by around 1-2 pm.
11. Participants are encouraged to bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks. It's also a good idea to check the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing layers for changing conditions.
12. Yes, all women and transgender people are welcome to join our walks. We are an inclusive community that embraces diversity and participation from everyone within the LGBTIQ community.
13. You don't need to know anyone in the group to join us! We pride ourselves on our friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends within the LGBTIQ community.
14. We understand that some participants may have health or medical conditions. We encourage individuals with health concerns to consult with their healthcare provider before participating in our walks. Furthermore, we strive to make our walks inclusive and accommodating to all participants, but it's important to prioritise your own well-being and safety.
15. In addition to our monthly walks, we organise a few mid-month Saturday afternoon walks, an annual camp, a winter solstice dinner, and a Christmas barbecue. These events provide additional opportunities for socialising and exploring the beautiful landscapes of Adelaide and its surroundings.
