Founded by the esteemed Seiichi Sugano Shihan, a former live-in student of Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba, Adelaide Aikido Aiki Kai is dedicated to upholding the traditions and teachings of Aikido. Seiichi Sugano Shihan arrived in Australia in 1965 and began instructing Aikido in Sydney before expanding his reach to different parts of the world like Belgium and New York. He played a significant role in promoting Aikido in Australia until his passing in 2010.

Aikikai Australia, of which Adelaide Aikido Aiki Kai is a member, is affiliated with the International Aikido Federation and the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo, Japan. This non-profit organisation ensures that Aikido practitioners in Australia adhere to the highest standards and maintain the integrity of the art form.

David Scott Shihan (7th dan) serves as the main instructor at Adelaide Aikido Aiki Kai's South Australia branch. He is supported by a team of experienced instructors, including Peter (Upi) Weston (6th Dan), Sharon Stewart (4th Dan), Terry Cuming (3rd Dan), and Paul Borda (3rd Dan).
