Action Callisthenics is a dynamic and artistic sports club located in Canberra, Australia. The club offers classes for children from an early age to adults, primarily in the Belconnen and Gungahlin areas. All classes are currently held at the Kippax Uniting Church in Holt. The club is committed to being a unified club, promoting the sport of callisthenics, continually developing all participants, and being recognised as leaders in the field.
Action Callisthenics offers classes for different age groups, including Tinies (7 years and under), Subbies (8 to 10 years), Juniors (11 to 13 years), Intermediates (14 to 17 years), and Masters (26 years or better). The club focuses on providing a fun and friendly environment for participants to develop their skills while also building friendships.
The callisthenics season officially begins at the commencement of ACT Public School Term One, with classes continuing through to the end of October/early November each year. While school holidays are observed, classes are still offered during one out of the two weeks, with specific dates being advised at the beginning of the year.
Action Callisthenics is a competitive club, participating in three local competitions each year. Sub Juniors through to Intermediates may also have the opportunity to travel and compete in interstate competitions. It is important for participants and their families to commit to each competition at the start of the year, as participation is vital to the success of each team. Local competitions take place in June, July/August, and September at Erindale College Theatre.
Participants are required to complete hair and makeup prior to the competition, and occasionally, the day before.
In addition to competitions, participants are encouraged to take part in the callisthenics skills programme offered by Callisthenics ACT each year. It is recommended that participants have at least 12 months of experience before joining this programme.
Callisthenics is an artistic sport unique to Australia, combining controlled exercises, gymnastics, marching, singing, simplified ballet, folk, and modern dance. Action Callisthenics teams perform these items with costumes, choreographed routines, and music on stage at competitions in the ACT, interstate, and at the club's concert.
Action Callisthenics is dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching environment for participants to develop their skills, foster teamwork, build confidence, and showcase their talent in the sport of callisthenics.
