The Islington Boxing Club is excited to announce our upcoming local boxing event! This event is perfect for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of boxing and eventually competing as an amateur boxer. Our Academy classes are open to beginners of all levels, with the goal of training you to reach the standards required for competitive boxing.
When you join our Academy, you will receive expert coaching and guidance to help you develop the necessary skills and techniques. Our dedicated coaches will push you to train hard and be consistent in attending sessions. We believe that dedication is key to achieving a high level of fitness and competency in boxing.
It's important to note that some class days, times, and prices may have changed since the video was made a few years ago. However, we provide all necessary equipment for our classes, except for hand wraps and a gum shield, which are essential for your safety. These items can be purchased from the club or any sports shop. If you're serious about boxing, we recommend investing in your own equipment (don't hesitate to seek advice from our experienced staff).
Sparring is an integral part of boxing, but it is only permitted when our coaches believe you have reached the required standard. When sparring, you will need 16oz sparring gloves, a headguard, a protector (for male boxers), and a gum shield.
Our Academy classes are designed for individuals who have never boxed before, have limited experience, or want to improve their fitness to get back into the sport. It's important to have the desire and ambition to compete. Rest assured, all our Academy classes, both for juniors and seniors, are led by coaches who are qualified England Boxing Coaches. They have also undergone enhanced DBS checks, First Aid training, and Safeguarding courses.
Participating in boxing can be physically challenging, but the rewards and enjoyment are immense. It builds confidence, improves fitness, teaches self-defence, and instils discipline. To join our Academy Boxing section, you must become a member of our club. We do not offer trials or non-membership options. On your first visit (and annually), you will be asked to complete a basic application form. You can download this form from our website or fill it out upon your arrival at the club. To ensure you don't miss the start of your first session, we recommend arriving at least ten to fifteen minutes early.
Please keep in mind that some class days, times, and prices may have changed since the video footage was recorded. If you're planning to participate in our Academy Boxing sessions, sparring gloves are a necessity. While we do have a supply available, we encourage you to purchase your own gloves from our club or boxing equipment specialist shops. Our staff can offer advice on the appropriate weight and size within your budget range. Additionally, you will need hand wraps and gum shields, both of which can be conveniently purchased from the club in a variety of colours.
