Rugby Football Club “The Boars” is a prominent rugby club located in Aberfeldy, Perthshire. The club offers playing and training opportunities for individuals of all ages and genders in Highland Perthshire. Committed to creating memorable experiences and lasting memories, Aberfeldy Rugby Club is a thriving community of rugby enthusiasts. At the core of their operations, the club upholds the values of Scottish Rugby, which include Respect, Leadership, Achievement, Engagement, and Enjoyment.
One of the club's recent achievements was acquiring new grounds in Aberfeldy. Previously, the club played home games in Kenmore, thanks to the generosity of the Kenmore Sports Association. However, on May 22nd, the goalposts were relocated to the new grounds in Aberfeldy. Volunteers from various sections of the club helped transport and assemble the posts, topped off with a celebratory drink of Aberfeldy Malt.
This move signifies a significant step for the club and is expected to bring about an influx of points scored by ARFC players.
In addition to their regular activities, Aberfeldy Rugby Club actively involves the local community. They run Saturday morning Rugby Tots sessions for preschool children and have recently launched a Youth Section, led by the newly-appointed Development Officer, Aidan Kerr. These youth sessions cater to children from Primary 3/4 up to Secondary age brackets. The club invites volunteers to assist in these sessions, and prior rugby experience is not necessary.
Those interested in volunteering can contact the club at info@aberfeldyrfc. Co. uk.
The appointment of Aidan Kerr as the Development Officer was made possible through the support of various sponsors, including the SSE Gryphon and Calliachar Community Fund and the Basil Death Trust, along with many generous supporters. This support demonstrates Aberfeldy Rugby Club's strong connexions in the community and their commitment to fostering rugby participation among boys and girls of all ages.
The club recently organised a post-flitting event, which not only raised awareness and sponsorship but aided the Youth Section and contributed to the Breadalbane Riding for the Disabled association. The event attracted sponsorship amounting to 1050. 00 from members and friends. Half of the proceeds were allocated to support the Youth Section, while the rest was donated to the Riding for the Disabled association.
The latter, in particular, is seeking additional volunteers, and anyone interested in contributing to this rewarding and fun initiative can contact Valentine at 01796 474444.
