Daylight in September, and our Junior programme finishes up just before that.
Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club has the unique advantage of sailing in two very different locations throughout the year. From March to June, the club sails at the Loch of Skene near Westhill. The Loch provides an ideal location for both learning to sail and competitive racing. The calm waters are perfect for beginners, while the racing programme keeps more experienced sailors engaged.
From June to November, the club moves to Stonehaven Bay, where the tides and waves present a very different and exciting challenge. Sailing in the Northern North Sea offers a thrilling experience for both racing and leisure sailors. The picturesque bay, with its stunning coastal scenery, adds a touch of beauty to the sailing experience.
Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club is primarily a dinghy sailing club. The club owns 24 dinghies of various types, ranging from Optimist, Topper, and RSFeva for juniors to Laser, Blaze, and Laser 2000 for more experienced sailors. Members have the advantage of free boat hire during the first year of membership, enabling them to sail without the immediate need to own a boat.
In addition to the club-owned dinghies, many other types of dinghies are sailed at the club. Bigger classes at the club include Laser, Solo, RS400, RS200, and Blazes. This variety of dinghies ensures that there is something for every sailor, regardless of their experience and preference.
Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club welcomes new members at any time of the year, regardless of their sailing abilities. The club offers a range of membership options and fees can be paid quarterly to spread the financial load. As a recognised RYA training centre, the club also offers junior dinghy sailing courses and powerboat driving lessons to members.
Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club has a very busy dinghy racing circuit that keeps members engaged and competitive. The club also hosts various regattas throughout the year, providing opportunities for both club members and visiting sailors to showcase their skills.
Apart from the active racing programme, the club also maintains an active social calendar. Members can enjoy a range of social events and activities, including club dinners, barbecues, and social outings. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the club ensures that members always find something exciting to participate in.
