Aberdeen Bridge Club, located in Aberdeen, Scotland, is a prominent and longstanding club dedicated to promoting the game of contract bridge. With a focus on creating a friendly and competitive environment, the club welcomes players of all ages and skill levels.
The club's schedule includes regular tournaments throughout the week. Monday nights are particularly popular, with the Open Tournament often fully booked with ten tables, and the Bronze 1 Tournament also attracting a strong turnout of seven or eight tables. Additionally, the club offers an online BBO tournament on Tuesdays, which consistently sees around 12 tables participating. On Thursdays, a relaxed afternoon session provides a more leisurely and social atmosphere for five regular tables.
Notably, the club is constantly working to improve its offerings and adapt to the needs of its members. The Wednesday evening tournament, unfortunately, has struggled to attract sufficient numbers and has had to be cancelled on multiple occasions. To address this issue, the club's Board has explored various solutions, including integrating the “Play and Learn” Improvers (currently consisting of two to three tables) into the Wednesday Tournament. However, it was determined that this approach would not be feasible.
Instead, the club aims to encourage participants from the successful Bronze 1 Tournament on Mondays or the Thursday Afternoon session to join and strengthen the numbers on Wednesday evening, with the goal of establishing another Bronze 1 Tournament on Wednesdays.
In addition to its regular tournaments, Aberdeen Bridge Club also hosts special events throughout the year. Notably, the club recently celebrated its 90th Anniversary with an event-filled day and opened its doors to the public for Doors Open Day. The club also hosted a heat of Thea Teale, a national red-pointed event for Bronze Level players, on behalf of the North District.
With an AGM and Christmas Party scheduled for December, the club looks forward to reflecting on the past year's achievements and celebrating its ongoing success. The President's update highlights the various events that have taken place and invites members to participate in upcoming national ranked pairs events in Dundee/Edinburgh.
Aberdeen Bridge Club is committed to providing a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all members. Whether you are a seasoned player or just starting out, the club offers opportunities for learning, playing, and socialising with fellow bridge enthusiasts. As the club continues to evolve and expand its offerings, it looks forward to engaging with its community and promoting the love of bridge in Aberdeen.
