Welcome to Aberdare and District Angling Association, a friendly and welcoming club situated in the beautiful New Zealand countryside. Our fishing lake, Nant Moel, is a fly-fishing only reservoir spread across 12 acres of idyllic landscape at the top of the Cynon valley, between Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil.
Established over 50 years ago, Aberdare and District Angling Association is dedicated to providing a fantastic fishing experience for anglers of all abilities.
Access to Nant Moel is easy, with a temporary roundabout off the A465 leading to the reservoir. You can find our exact location on Google Maps.
We offer affordable membership prices for the 2024-2025 season, ranging from 140 for disabled anglers to 160 for families. Day permits are also available for 15 both online and at Hirwaun post office, allowing for convenient access to the fishing lake.
At Nant Moel, we pride ourselves on our excellent facilities, particularly for disabled anglers. We have four level platforms extending into the reservoir, as well as ramps and flat paths for wheelchair users. These amenities ensure that everyone can enjoy a day of fishing or gain that extra casting distance.
To enhance your fishing experience, we have installed strategically placed benches for you to take a well-earned rest. Our spacious and secure car park provides ample space for your vehicle. Members can utilise our cabin for changing, enjoying a flask of tea or coffee, or catching up on the latest news with fellow anglers. In case of occasional showers, there is a shelter for everyone to use.
Full members have the privilege of using our rowing boat (not available to day ticket holders), allowing for a different way to explore the reservoir. Electric engines are allowed on the boat.
Nant Moel is stocked regularly with hard-fighting rainbow trout, which average around 2lb in weight. Many larger trout, up to 7lb, can also be found in the reservoir, along with the occasional blue trout. To ensure the well-being of the fish population, we have a team of active Bailiffs who monitor the lake both day and night.
To protect the fish population, there are some fishing limits in place. Anglers are allowed to kill up to two fish per day, with fishing ceasing once this limit is reached. Additionally, there is a limit of four fish per week (Monday to Sunday) when fly-fishing. However, catch and release is also permitted if anglers use barbless hooks.
Please note that catch and release carries a daily limit of 10 fish.
The fishing season at Nant Moel runs from March 2nd, 2024, to January 31st, 2025. Annual or day tickets can be purchased at the Hirwaun post office on High Street, Aberdare, or through our PayPal link on the website.
