Hi everyone,
Fiona Henderson here, the organiser of Abbey Judo Club, wanted to share a quick note with you. Abbey Judo Club, right here in Newtownabbey, has been a cornerstone of martial arts for over 40 years. Initially known as “Valley Judo Club”, it got its start thanks to Victor Catling, who introduced it to the Valley Leisure Centre when it first opened.
At Abbey Judo Club, Fiona ensures a supportive and friendly vibe for all judo enthusiasts. Whether you're just starting or have been practising for years, there are programmes for every skill level.
Recreation is a big focus here. Fiona understands that everyone learns at their own pace, so the classes are designed to be fun and pressure-free, letting you enjoy your journey in judo.
For those interested in the competitive scene, Abbey Judo Club stands as one of the top clubs in the UK. They regularly participate in various competitions across Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, and Great Britain. There’s plenty of opportunity to progress if competition is your thing.
Judo at Abbey isn’t just about physical growth; it’s also about self-improvement. Fiona encourages members to follow the technical syllabus, aiming for continuous skill enhancement and grades achievement. Judo is all about maturing both mind and body, after all.
Community is key here. Fiona invites everyone – players, coaches, parents – to be part of the Abbey Judo family. The journey on the tatami (judo mat) and the social setting offer great chances to make lasting friendships.
Interested in joining? Fiona would love to hear from you. You can book a class or get in touch via the club’s website or directly through phone or email.
