A1 Judo Club is a renowned martial arts club based in East Ham, Newham, London. The club operates during term time only and conducts its classes at the East Ham Leisure Centre. Wednesdays are dedicated to different age groups, with classes for 5-8 year olds from 6:20pm to 7:20pm, followed by sessions for 9-14 year olds from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Additionally, there is an adults-only class from 7pm to 8:30pm. Fridays are reserved for tots aged 3–4 years old from 5:30pm to 6pm, as well as classes for 9-14 year olds from 6pm to 6:30pm and adults from 6:30pm onwards.
A1 Judo Club offers flexible membership options for both kids and adults. For children and students, the annual club membership fee is 20 per person. Kids classes are priced at 35 per month for once-a-week training and 45 per month for twice-a-week training. The club also offers family discounts.
Adults, on the other hand, pay an annual club membership fee of 30 per person. Adult classes are priced at 45 per month for once-a-week training and 65 per month for twice-a-week training.
For those interested in trying out the sport, A1 Judo Club offers trial lessons for 6, which can be booked once. Additionally, individuals can opt for a pay-as-you-go option, where they can pay for lessons without the need for membership fees through the club's website.
The club's dedicated and experienced coaching team consists of Head Coach Tahmina Adan, a black belt judo coach with over 20 years of experience and a qualified UKCC Level 2 Judo Coach. Tahmina is passionate about teaching judo and believes in the sport's ability to teach important life skills such as self-defence, discipline, friendship, hard work, and kindness. She is also a qualified teacher with 5 years of experience working with primary and secondary school children.
The club's founder, Coach Tahirjan Karimov, has been coaching for over 14 years and is a father of 5. He prides himself on the inclusive nature of judo, where individuals from any size, colour, or background are welcomed into the A1 Judo Club family. Tahirjan's dedication to coaching is evident in the success of his former students who have become coaches at the club.
A1 Judo Club places a strong emphasis on the safety and well-being of its members. With DBS-checked Club Welfare Officers and coaches who attend relevant safeguarding courses, the club ensures a secure and nurturing environment for all its participants. Andy Irvine, a lifelong judo enthusiast, started his own children's judo journey at A1 Judo Club and now shares his passion for the sport with others.
