Yogalates is a renowned sports club located in Byron Shire Council, known for its unique fusion of Yoga and Pilates. Established in 1995 by Louise Solomon, Yogalates has been transforming lives for over 30 years by connecting mind, body, and spirit.
Louise Solomon's personal journey led her to develop Yogalates organically. After experiencing an injury in the Yoga room as a beginner, she turned to Pilates and found it to be a perfect complement to Yoga. With a deep understanding of core strength and function, Louise's body and mind awakened in ways she had never experienced before. She then immersed herself in Ashtanga Yoga training for a year and naturally integrated her Pilates knowledge into her practise, giving birth to the Yogalates method.
Yogalates stands out in the current health and wellness landscape, where Yoga is highly popular. It offers a unique and award-winning modality, recognised by the Vocational Education & Accreditation Board (VETAB) for its exceptional teacher training programme. The Yogalates DVDs even topped the UK health and fitness charts in 2001, winning an award for innovation. The method effectively merges the ancient practise of Yoga from the East with the posture-enhancing dynamics of Pilates from the West.
The focus of Yogalates is on improving body awareness, alignment, and movement patterns for “Western” bodies. Through Pilates-based exercises, Yogalates awakens and strengthens the subtle and structural core muscles while incorporating the postures, philosophy, and wisdom of Yoga. It is designed to provide a comprehensive practise suitable for individuals in their daily lives.
Louise Solomon has been running benchmark Yogalates Teacher Trainings for the past 22 years and has over 30 years of teaching wisdom. The course material has been recognised as an example of best practise by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Louise has also established a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and utilises a range of modalities to support students as they navigate their unique learning journeys.
Breathwork is emphasised in the Yogalates practise, allowing practitioners to cultivate a deeper connexion between the body and mind. This integration of breath and movement creates a harmonious and transformative experience for participants.
