Rugby League has been the dominant and most popular football code played throughout years in Yarrabah. Due to isolation of the community, coverage of the game in any form had been limited. However someway, somehow this great game still managed to capture many of our people's attention throughout generations.
As years progressed and media coverage expanded through various types; the game became more & more absorbing, so much so that the first school team was established in the early 70s and participation in the sport extended out of our community. Young men unleashed their potential and became permanent members of established clubs in the Cairns region.
With all this talent leaving our community, inevitably there came a time when elder members took a stance in the mid 80s and lobbied the CDRL for the inclusion of our own team to participate in their competition.
With the Demise of an established Club, an opportunity arose in the late 90s and the door was opened for Yarrabah Seahawks. In 2000 a letter to the CDRL pleading our case was finally accepted and Yarrabah Seahawks officially became a member of the Cairns District Rugby League competition.
