The YHA Cross Country Ski Club is a recreational trail and backcountry ski touring club based in Melbourne, Australia. It is affiliated with the Youth Hostels Association of Victoria, a non-profit-making organisation with members of all ages. We are part of YHA Activities, an outdoor sports oriented club dedicated to the pursuit of activities such as bushwalking, cycling and canoeing, amongst others. Costs are kept to a minimum on our trips.
The YHA Cross Country Ski Club is not a commercial enterprise – successful trips depend on participants' co-operation and contribution. During the ski season (snow permitting) the club organises: Day trips to cross country ski locations close to Melbourne, such as Lake Mountain or Mount Stirling. These trips are on trails and usually suitable for beginner skiers. Weekend trips further afield, to areas such as Falls Creek and the Bogong High Plains.
On such trips we try to cater to beginners as well as more experienced skiers. Accommodation is in hostels or cabins near the ski areas. For those who are more adventurous or more experienced, weekend or extended ski tours, involving snow camping, are sometimes run.
