Whitehorse Cyclists is the largest recreational bike riding club located in Melbourne's east. The club's mission is to provide safe and well-organised cycling activities for its members in a friendly and supportive environment, while also promoting recreational cycling to the community.
The club is made up of a diverse group of women and men who share a love for the outdoors, enjoy riding bicycles, and thrive in each other's company. Members have the option to participate in different levels of rides, catered to their individual preferences and capabilities. Some rides are shorter, covering around 30 or 40 kilometres along bike paths, and are typically followed by a coffee stop. Longer rides of 60 to 70 kilometres along undulating paths and roads are also offered, with stops for both morning coffee and lunch.
For more experienced riders, there are rides that exceed 100 kilometres, combining hilly roads and trails, and include stops for coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea. Regardless of the length or difficulty level, all riders are bound to return feeling exhilarated.
Whitehorse Cyclists offers rides on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, some Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Additionally, there are women-specific rides available on Saturdays. The club takes pride in having the most extensive ride calendar in Melbourne, allowing members to find a ride that suits their schedule and preferences. Whitehorse Cyclists emphasises the importance of group riding, as it promotes safety on the roads.
Safety is always a priority, and the club is committed to advocating for safe cycling paths and linkages throughout the community.
The club is highly active and currently runs up to 14 rides per week. While the riders are recreational, new members are expected to be able to ride at least 30 kilometres at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour. Whether individuals choose to ride three times a week or once a month, the club offers flexibility to cater to different schedules. Prospective members are also encouraged to try out the rides before joining.
Whitehorse Cyclists provides a comprehensive ride calendar, which can be accessed in PDF or Word format on their website. In addition to the ride calendar, the club also organises social and club events, which are outlined in a separate calendar. The website also includes information about easy public rides within the City of Whitehorse, which are open to the public. Non-members can find the rides calendar on the website as well.
To access certain pages on the website, users are required to login with their username and password. The website also provides various resources and information, including club documents, club policies, club history, club meetings, newsletters, reports, and forms. Additionally, there is a gallery showcasing photos of past rides and events.
Whitehorse Cyclists welcomes cyclists of all levels to join and ride with them. Whether you are a seasoned rider or new to cycling, the club offers a supportive and inclusive community where members can enjoy the thrill of riding together.
