The Warrnambool Dog Training School Inc, located in Warrnambool, is a non-profit, volunteer-run organisation that offers obedience and agility training for dogs of all skill levels. With the motto “Happy Dog, Happy Owner” and the aim of teaching dog owners how to train their furry friends, WDTS is dedicated to helping dogs and their owners develop a balanced relationship.
The training classes at WDTS are conducted by experienced instructors and take place at the Harris Street Reserve on most Sunday mornings throughout the year. Whether owners are bringing home their first puppy, adopting an older rescue dog, or looking to compete in national trials, WDTS is there to provide assistance and guidance.
The club hosts obedience trials in March and June, as well as agility and jumping trials in March and November. These events provide opportunities for members to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level if desired.
To participate in the training sessions, attendees are encouraged to bring their own dog treats, preferably something moist and irresistible to their dogs, such as 4 legs from the refrigerated section of the supermarket or cheese. It is important to note that training sessions will be cancelled on days declared a Total Fire Ban (TFB) in the South West area.
For those interested in joining WDTS, various membership options are available. Becoming a member offers the chance to be part of a supportive club community, receive discounted training fees, and participate in hosting obedience and agility trials. Members also have opportunities to work closely with club instructors and committee members and attend social events with their dogs.
Membership rates include a joining fee and rates for different types of trainers (ordinary/single, dual, junior), social non-training members, and families. The fees are due for payment by January 30th each calendar year.
To register for the training sessions, interested individuals need to fill out an online form on the registration page. An instructor will then contact them for confirmation of enrolment and allocation of a training session in late January. The cost of registration for a four-week training course is $60, which includes the Dogs Vic Levy.
Whether it's beginner obedience training, advanced agility skills, or anything in between, the Warrnambool Dog Training School Inc is ready to guide dog owners and their furry companions on their training journey.
