Ving Tsun Combat Science

Other martial arts that may rely on strength and athleticism, Ving Tsun is a fighting system that emphasises using one's natural body structure to develop power, speed, and efficiency. It is a simple, direct, and efficient martial art that was made famous by Bruce Lee, who was taught by Wong Shun Leung and Yip Man.

Ving Tsun Combat Science is a continuation of the Melbourne Chinese Martial Arts Club (MCMAC), now that MCMAC's principal instructor David Peterson has moved to Malaysia. The club offers Wing Chun (Ving Tsun) classes in the Melbourne CBD, following the Wong Shun Leung Method. The primary goal of VTCS is to teach effective self-defence skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that enables individuals to achieve their full potential.

At VTCS, students learn to cope with real-world situations through the training methods established by Sifu Wong Shun Leung. The training is effective and direct, focusing on preparing students for the harsh realities of physical violence. Unlike traditional martial arts where practitioners may spend hours punching the air or engaging in make-believe combat routines, VTCS emphasises partner training to test and refine techniques and principles.

Sifu Darren Elvey, the head instructor at VTCS, has a lifelong passion for martial arts. His interest began when he was 10 years old, and he has trained in various martial arts throughout his teenage years. Darren is dedicated to finding practical fighting methods that would be effective in real-life situations.

All instructors at Ving Tsun Combat Science are accredited through the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme and hold certifications in first aid and working with children. The club is a member of Kung Fu Wushu Australia, the peak governing body for Kungfu in Australia.
