Today, Urangan Bowls Club Inc. boasts a strong and vibrant membership, with both men and women of all ages participating in the sport of Lawn Bowls. The club offers a range of programmes and activities to cater to players of all skill levels, from social games to competitive pennant competitions.
The club's facilities include two covered artificial greens, ensuring that games can be played regardless of weather conditions. The greens are well-maintained and provide a consistent playing surface. Night games are also available, allowing members to enjoy the sport during the cooler evenings.
New to the sport? No problem! The club offers free coaching for new bowlers, helping them learn the basics and improve their skills. The experienced coaches are passionate about the sport and committed to helping newcomers feel welcome and comfortable on the greens.
For children aged 9 to 17, the club offers a Junior Bowls programme. With supervision from experienced coaches, children can learn the game in a safe and fun environment. Some juniors have even gone on to represent the district and state in competitions, showcasing the talent and dedication fostered by the club.
Situated at the southern end of Hervey Bay, the Urangan Bowls Club is conveniently located near beaches and the botanic gardens, offering a picturesque setting for members and guests to enjoy. The club provides a friendly and welcoming environment, where players can come together to socialise and enjoy the sport of Lawn Bowls.
The history of the Urangan Bowls Club Inc. dates back to 1975 when it was founded by a group of enthusiastic individuals. Roy Robb, the first club president, generously donated the land on which the club was established. Over the years, the club expanded with the construction of a second green and clubhouse extensions.
The facilities gained recognition for their quality, with members representing the district and participating in state titles.
In 1995, the men's and ladies clubs amalgamated to form a single entity, the Urangan Bowls Club Inc. A Management Committee was formed to oversee the business and financial affairs of the club, while the men's and ladies' sections continued to manage the bowls activities. This structure continues to this day, ensuring that both sections have a voice in the club's operations.
The club has continued to flourish under the leadership of dedicated individuals. In 2002, a fully covered bowling green was constructed, thanks to the efforts of Allan Harrold and a grant of $300,000 from the government. This state-of-the-art green has further enhanced the club's reputation and attracts bowlers from near and far.
As a not-for-profit organisation, Urangan Bowls Club Inc. relies on the support of its members, the local community, and local businesses. The club remains committed to providing top-quality facilities and a welcoming environment for members and guests to enjoy the sport of Lawn Bowls.
