About

Traq - Washpool World Heritage Trails is a sports club based in Brisbane that specialises in trail running events. The club is now overseen by Coffs Trail Runners, with Keelan Birch as the race director for 2022. The club is dedicated to showcasing the beauty and diversity of the Washpool and Gibraltar Range National Parks, which feature world heritage listed rainforests, clear rivers, high country heathlands, granite outcrops, and river gorges.

The trail running events organised by Traq - Washpool World Heritage Trails take place in an extensive network of well-formed trails within the national parks, making it an ideal location for trail running enthusiasts. The area also offers great natural campsites, allowing participants to enjoy the stunning surroundings and connect with other runners before the race. The club is now listed by AURA, further enhancing its reputation within the trail running community.

The club offers a range of events catering to different skill levels and age groups. The 9 km event is suitable for families and walkers, while the 26 km and 52 km events are open to participants aged 18 and above. The entry fees for the events are $10, $25, and $50, respectively. Participants have the option to camp at the Mulligans Hut Campground, a popular spot for runners and their families to stay before the race.

However, due to limited numbers, registration should be done promptly to secure a spot.

On race day, there is a carefully planned schedule to ensure a smooth and organised experience for participants. Registration and bib collection open at 6:30 am, followed by race briefings for each distance. The 52 km Ultra starts at 7:00 am, the 26 km race at 8:00 am, and the 9 km race/family outing/walk at 8:30 am. T-shirts can be purchased after the events for $35 as a memento of the experience.

Traq - Washpool World Heritage Trails emphasises the importance of hydration and nutrition, particularly in the remote areas of the trails. Participants are encouraged to be prepared, carrying enough water and food to sustain them throughout the race. Water points are available on the course, with four for the 52 km event and one for the 26 km event. However, participants must carry at least 1.

5l of water for the 26 km and 2. 0l for the 52 km. Drop bags with additional supplies are available at the two checkpoints on the 52 km course.

After completing the race, participants can enjoy post-event catering, which includes refreshments such as cake, fruit, cola, water, and sports drinks to replenish and aid in recovery.

To reach the event location, all races start at the Mulligan's Hut Picnic Area in the Gibraltar Range National Park, accessible via the Gwydir Highway. The club recommends camping at Mulligans Hut Camping Ground, which offers kitchen and toilet facilities, as well as a fantastic swimming hole. Participants are urged to use the official toilets and bring all their rubbish with them to maintain the pristine environment. For those who prefer not to camp, the historic town of Glen Innes is a convenient base, offering accommodation and amenities.

Overall, Traq - Washpool World Heritage Trails provides an exciting opportunity for trail running enthusiasts to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Washpool and Gibraltar Range National Parks. With meticulously planned events and a focus on participant preparation and enjoyment, the club offers a unique and unforgettable trail running experience.
