The Torrens Rowing Club, established in 1903, is a prominent sports club in Adelaide, South Australia. With over 110 years of promoting amateur rowing, the club is committed to fostering rowing at all levels, from beginners to national and international competition. Despite being situated in a relatively small rowing community, the club boasts a membership of around 150 individuals, ranging from beginners taking their first strokes in a boat to experienced Olympians. Members of all ages, from early teenagers to those over eighty, are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the sport.
The club has two main locations: the majority of its fleet is housed at the Rowing South Australia Administration Centre at West Lakes, adjacent to the South Australian AM Ramsay 2000-metre regatta course. The traditional home of the Torrens Rowing Club is on the enchanting banks of the Torrens Lake, a short walk north of Adelaide's CBD. This stunning location also houses the club's Function Centre and gym, making it a hub for both rowing activities and social gatherings.
Besides rowing, the Torrens Rowing Club is known for its vibrant social activities. Since before World War II, the club has been organising annual events such as the Opening Day, Christmas Reunion, and Annual Dinner, in addition to cocktail parties, quiz nights, and fundraisers. In 2004, the club embarked on an ambitious renovation of its club rooms, completing the project in 2005. The result is a state-of-the-art Function Centre with a capacity of up to 150 people.
With its picturesque views of the Torrens River and competitive pricing, the Function Centre has become a highly sought-after venue for weddings, birthdays, and other special events.
The Torrens Rowing Club is proud to offer coaching for adaptive rowing, having been the first club in South Australia to do so. Adaptive rowing, which has been a Paralympic sport since 2008, further demonstrates the club's commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the sport.
