The Wednesday Walkers is a lively and welcoming sports club based in Melbourne, Australia. With approximately 230 members, the club boasts a diverse range of individuals from various backgrounds, all united by their passion for walking and hiking. Each Wednesday, the club organises six different levels of walks, providing options for walkers of all abilities and preferences. Please note that there is a short break over the Christmas period.
The walks are carefully graded, with Walk 1 being the shortest, offering routes of approximately 4–5 miles, while Walk 6 can be more challenging, covering around 10–12 miles. Some walks can be accessed using public transportation, but most require the use of cars. However, members are typically more than happy to offer lifts to those in need. The quarterly programme provides specific starting points and times for each walk.
In addition to the regular Wednesday walks, the club arranges coach trips during the summer months and plans a short holiday in the autumn. Towards the end of each quarter, all groups come together for a social gathering and shared lunch, featuring the iconic potato pie.
The club operates under the guidance of an elected committee, and each walk is led by a dedicated member on a voluntary basis. Moreover, experienced members are always willing to offer guidance and support upon request.
