The Ballet Class Pty Ltd is a prestigious sports club located in the Eastern Suburbs area of Sydney. Established in 1993 by Christine Atkinson, the club is known for its commitment to nurturing the love of dance and providing the highest quality of instruction.
At The Ballet Class, Rose Bay, only the best professionals are hired to uphold the club's ethics and care for every student. The club offers a wide range of ballet classes, from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2, as well as Pre School Ballet, Vaganova Ballet, Repertoire, Character, and Contemporary Lyrical. The club also offers classes in Silver Swans, Pilates/Stretch, Eisteddfods, Adults, Musical Theatre, Modern Tap, Theatrical Jazz, and Hip Hop.
Christine Atkinson, the Principal and Founder of The Ballet Class, has a wealth of experience and expertise in the dance industry. Originally from Cardiff, South Wales, UK, she relocated to Sydney in 1992. Christine began her dance training at The Welsh National Ballet School and went on to study at The Rambert School of Ballet in London. She pursued a professional dancing career and then became a teacher for The Welsh Arts Council and Ogwr Borough Council.
Christine is an Examiner, Registered Teacher, Freelance Faculty Tutor, and CBTS Mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance. She is also the Principal of The Ballet Class and teaches regularly at the Rose Bay studio.
The Ballet Class operates according to a term-based schedule, with four terms throughout the year. The term dates for 2023 are as follows: Term 1 (30 January – 6 April), Term 2 (24 April – 1 July), Term 3 (17 July – 23 September), and Term 4 (9 October – 3 December). The club also observes public holidays and has specific dates set aside for compulsory exam holiday classes, annual R. Examinations, and end-of-year performances.
To ensure a professional and uniform appearance, The Ballet Class has specific requirements for its students' attire. All classical ballet students up to and including Grade 5 are required to wear the regulation leotard in all syllabus classes. Other leotards may be worn in Contemporary, Open, and Eisteddfod classes. Hair is to be worn in a classical bun at all times, and character skirts should be bought plain and handed to the office for The Ballet Class uniform braid.
Specific uniform items, such as ballet shoes, socks or tights, leotards, skirts, and tutus, are available for purchase directly from the club.
