Initially known as the Snowy Mountains Authority Ski Club, the club converted one of the original construction buildings into a ski lodge. In 1970, the present lodge was constructed on the same site, and the club was renamed Tate Ski Club.

The club's membership primarily consists of current and former employees of the Snowy Mountains Authority and their families. With a limited membership of 125, Tate Ski Club maintains its exclusivity while fostering a close-knit community of passionate skiers.
