Tamworth Gymnastics Club, in partnership with McGinnity Gymnastics Pty Ltd and McGinnity Schools Gymnastics Pty Ltd, is a reputable sports club located in Tamworth, Australia. The club, which was established 20 years ago as an incorporated association, operates from its current location at the Regional Sports Centre.
The club initially conducted classes at Peel Technology High School before moving to a purpose-built tin shed at the Tamworth Showground. After seven years, they relocated to their current facility, which boasts a fully equipped gym with Olympic standard equipment. Gymnasts have access to a full sprung floor, three sets of bars, four beams, an in-ground pit, a 12m tumbling trampoline, and a 24. 5m run to a vaulting area.
The facility also includes essential amenities such as a kitchen, two offices, and toilet and shower facilities for the convenience of gymnasts and spectators.
Tamworth Gymnastics Club prides itself on being a family-oriented club that values both achievement and a supportive atmosphere. In 2001, the club achieved the honour of being named the National Champion Club for the Level 4-6 Australian National Levels Championships, a milestone that brings immense pride to everyone associated with the club. Over the years, the club has produced numerous notable achievements, with many girls selected to represent New South Wales at national events and Border Challenges against Queensland, along with winning several Regional, Country, State, and National medals and trophies.
The club provides various classes to cater to different age groups and skill levels. Kindergym classes, designed for children aged 2–5 years who are not yet in school, are conducted by qualified Kindergym leaders. These classes focus on developing gross and fine motor skills, as well as basic gymnastics skills. Each class has a maximum limit of 12 gymnasts on Wednesday (with two coaches) and 15 gymnasts on Tuesday and Friday (with three coaches).
Siblings are not permitted on the equipment or mats area for insurance purposes and to maintain cleanliness.
For girls aged 8 years and above who have not yet transitioned to the Prep Levels Division class or simply wish to challenge themselves with more advanced gymnastics, the Senior Girls Recreational class is available on Fridays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The Tuesday or Thursday Recreational class caters to school-aged children, excluding pre-school or prep classes. Each class runs from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm and welcomes both girls and primary school boys. Gymnasts are divided into age and ability groups during practise sessions. Not only do these classes provide the basics of gymnastics, but they also serve as a platform for talent identification.
Selected gymnasts may have the opportunity to progress to Prep or National levels from this class. Gymnasts participate in cards, which are practised every second or third week and then tested at the end of the term.
