About

Tacking Point Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is situated at Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie and offers a wide range of activities and services to its members, visitors, and the local community. The club is dedicated to providing lifesaving services, organising nipper activities, and hosting social functions.

As a member of Tacking Point SLSC, individuals have the opportunity to contribute to the local community and ensure the safety of beachgoers. Patrolling members play a crucial role in keeping the public safe by developing valuable surf rescue and first aid skills. They also get to improve their fitness levels, build teamwork and camaraderie, and have fun in the process.

Becoming a surf lifesaver is open to anyone over the age of 13. Individuals can start by obtaining their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and then work towards achieving the prestigious Bronze Medallion. The Bronze Medallion requires individuals to be over the age of 15 and demonstrate proficiency in various surf-related skills, including surf awareness, aquatic rescue, patrol and surveillance procedures, CPR, and first aid. Before starting training for the Bronze Medallion, individuals must complete a 400m swim in less than nine minutes in a pool of at least 25m in length.

Qualified instructors will then train them to become proficient surf lifesavers.

Tacking Point SLSC also offers club memberships for those who want to support the club and its initiatives. The club provides information on upcoming courses, member achievements, and offers resources to help individuals enhance their skills and knowledge in surf lifesaving.

In addition to its focus on lifesaving, Tacking Point SLSC also offers a vibrant Nippers programme. Open to children aged 5–13 years, the aim of the programme is to train young lifesavers of the future. Children will learn various skills, including surf awareness, surf rescue techniques, first aid and CPR, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork. Tacking Point SLSC prides itself on being a fun and friendly club, ensuring that all participants are valued and supported regardless of their skill level or experience on the beach.

To stay connected with Tacking Point SLSC, individuals can visit their website, join their Facebook page, or reach out through their contact details. The club is committed to promoting beach safety, providing valuable training, and fostering a sense of community among its members and the wider public.
