Welcome to Sydney Speed Skating Club! Located at Macquarie Ice Rink, our club is open to skaters of all ages and abilities who are passionate about speed skating. Whether you are a seasoned skater or a beginner looking to try something new, we invite you to join us on the ice.
Established in 2013, Sydney Speed Skating Club is a community of skaters and volunteers who are dedicated to sustaining and growing our sport. Our club members include previous national champions and international representatives, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our training sessions.
As an inclusive club, we welcome skaters from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Whether you're looking to compete at a national level or simply enjoy the thrill of skating fast, there's a place for you at Sydney Speed Skating Club.
Our training sessions take place on Friday nights from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, starting on January 13, 2023. These sessions are open to NSW Association members and try-outs are also welcome. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the session to ensure you have enough time to prepare.
If you're new to speed skating, don't worry! We offer speed skating lessons as part of the Macquarie Ice Rink skate school programme. These lessons are suitable for all ages and will help you develop the fundamentals of speed skating technique.
In addition to our regular training sessions, we host events and competitions throughout the year. One of our highlight events is the SSS Cup, which will be held on March 17, 2023, at Macquarie Ice Rink. To participate, skaters must complete grading time trials on March 10, 2023. This event is open to all AIR registered club skaters and registered skate schoolers.
If you're interested in trying speed skating for the first time, we offer come and try sessions at Macquarie Ice Rink. These sessions provide an opportunity to learn about speed skating technique, racing, and experience the thrill of competing. Participants are grouped according to their skill level to ensure maximum safety and enjoyment.
To participate in our come and try sessions, all you need is a helmet, gloves, long sleeves, and long-legged pants. Knee pads, such as those used for volleyball, are also recommended for additional protection. You can skate with any kind of skates, including rental skates, to get started. As you progress, we can assist you with equipment recommendations and even provide loan skates if needed.
If you're ready to join Sydney Speed Skating Club or have any questions, please get in touch with us. You can find us on Facebook or use the contact form on our website. We look forward to welcoming you to our club and sharing the joy of “skate fast – turn left” with you!
