Sydney Kendo Club

Sydney Kendo Club, located in Sydney, Australia, is a sports club dedicated to the practise and promotion of Kendo, the traditional Japanese martial art of swordsmanship. For beginners, Sydney Kendo Club offers a beginners' course that covers the basics of Kendo, including etiquette, footwork, striking techniques, and various training methods. Upon completion of the course, participants will be prepared to practise in the traditional Kendo uniform and armour and can seamlessly transition into the club's regular classes.

Regular training at Sydney Kendo Club takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at their dojo in Willoughby. These sessions are open to all club members as well as visiting Kendoka from affiliated clubs of the Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR) or the Federation of International Kendo (FIK). Experienced Kendoka who wish to keiko (sparring) with Sydney Kendo Club are also welcome to contact the club for further information.

Senior grade ji-geiko sessions are held on Mondays at another location in North Willoughby, providing an additional training opportunity for advanced practitioners. These sessions aim to further enhance skills and foster a strong sense of camaraderie among participants.

According to the All Japan Kendo Federation, Kendo serves to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the sword.
