To create a relaxed, non-traditional, and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow in their martial arts journey.
The Sydney Kali Academy, located in the Hurstville area of Sydney, has been teaching Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and Kali since 2003. Considered one of Australia's leading academies for these martial arts, the academy offers classes in three main arts: Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, the Filipino Martial Arts (Kali), and Madjapahit Martial Arts (Silat).
All instructors at the Sydney Kali Academy are Government accredited through the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) and the Martial Arts Industry Association (MAIA). The academy is also proud to be a member of the Australian Jeet Kune Do Association and the Inosanto Academy International Instructors Association, ensuring the highest standards of instruction.
The Filipino Martial Arts taught at the academy refer to both ancient and newer fighting methods devised in the Philippines. Jun Fan Gung Fu, another style taught, focuses on all four ranges of empty hand combat, including punching, kicking, grappling, and trapping. It is important to note that Jeet Kune Do is not a modified version of Wing Chun or a composite of different styles, contrary to popular belief. Madjapahit Martial Arts, on the other hand, draws inspiration from the Majapahit Empire, which spanned two-thirds of the circumference of the globe from 1292 to 1389.
The Sydney Kali Academy also offers free lessons for those interested in martial arts. By simply clicking on the free lesson icon, individuals can get started on their martial arts journey.
The academy's head instructor, Alf Cocco, has been studying Jeet Kune Do, Kali, and Silat since 1993 and has been teaching publicly in Sydney since 2003. He is certified by renowned martial artists Guro Dan Inosanto, Paul Vunak, and Walt Missingham. With over 21 years of experience in the Martial Arts, Alf has also trained with other great martial artists such as Erik Paulson, Larry Hartsell, and Chai Sirisute.
Alf believes that the practise of martial arts not only develops self-defence skills but also promotes self-development. His teaching methods focus on the basics, as well as providing a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and philosophy of the arts presented. The goal is for students to develop at their own pace and gain a well-rounded experience in martial arts.
Overall, the Sydney Kali Academy provides a welcoming and inclusive community for individuals interested in learning Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and Kali. With highly-accredited instructors and a relaxed teaching environment, the academy offers a comprehensive range of martial arts training for all skill levels.
