Sydney All Breeds Dog Training Club (SABDTC) is a volunteer, not-for-profit dog training club located in Sydney's inner west. Established in 1956, SABDTC has been helping dog owners train their dogs for trial competitions for over 50 years. Many of its members have gone on to become top handlers and obedience judges.
The club aims to promote training programmes that develop obedient and happy dogs, who can be sources of pleasure and pride to their families and good canine citizens in their community. SABDTC offers general dog training classes on Sundays, catering to dogs of all breeds. These classes focus on teaching civilised behaviour and life skills to dogs, which strengthens their bond with their human families and helps them obey standard instructions in various situations.
For dogs with complex behavioural issues or difficult problems, group classes may not be sufficient. In such cases, instructors will refer owners to the Chief Instructor, who will provide individual training tailored to the dog's specific needs.
SABDTC provides instruction in basic dog obedience training, as well as opportunities for owners to practise and socialise with their dogs. The club's instructors will guide owners in teaching behaviours such as recall and loose leash walking, emphasising the importance of consistency and practise for effective learning. The club also encourages interested members to try competition obedience, a precision sport where handlers and their dogs perform a series of standard exercises. SABDTC is affiliated with Dogs NSW and may organise official trials each year.
At SABDTC, positive reward-based training methods are used. This means that the club encourages the use of food, treats, or toys to motivate dogs during training. Harsh treatment or physical punishment is strictly prohibited, as positive training methods foster cooperation and mutual understanding between humans and dogs.
Enrolment at SABDTC takes place on the first Sunday of every month. For more information or to enrol, interested individuals can contact the club via email at enquiries@sabdtc. Com. SABDTC is dedicated to enhancing the relationship between dogs, their families, and the community through positive training methods and responsible ownership.
