Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre, located in Swan Hill Rural City, is a proud member of the little athletics community in Australia. The club is dedicated to the development of young athletes, emphasising skill-building, enjoyment, and personal improvement. With a focus on inclusivity, the club welcomes athletes of all backgrounds and skill levels, ranging in age from 5 to 15.
The club offers a weekly Friday night Track and Field competition during the summer months, providing athletes with opportunities to showcase their abilities and achieve personal bests. In the winter months, the club organises Sunday morning cross country events, allowing athletes to experience the challenges and rewards of long-distance running.
Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre has been operating since 1968 and holds the distinction of being the 25th Centre to register with the Victorian Little Athletics Association. This history is reflected in the club's uniforms, which proudly display the number 25.
As part of Little Athletics Victoria, Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre is part of a larger network of almost 100 Little Athletics Centres throughout the state. The club is situated in the Western Country Region, which also includes centres such as Ararat, Ballarat, Buninyong, Camperdown, Casterton, Cohuna, Horsham, Kerang, Lake Bolac and District, Maryborough, Portland, Stawell, and Warrnambool. This regional connexion allows Swan Hill little athletes to participate in competitions at both the region and state levels, as well as attend Open Days and Carnivals hosted by other centres.
The club encourages new athletes to join and participate in the competitions. Prospective athletes can take part in two trial weeks of competition to get a feel for the sport and the club. To do this, they need to register as trial athletes on the Little Athletics Victoria website. Full member registrations and payments can be made through the same website, enabling little athletes to compete in both summer and winter competitions in Swan Hill, as well as other centre open days and regional events organised by Little Athletics Victoria.
In addition to athlete participation, Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre relies on the support and involvement of parents and carers. As athletics competitions require numerous helpers to ensure smooth operations, the club depends on the assistance of parents and family members. Parents and carers are rostered on during the Track and Field Season to assist with various tasks, such as measuring, recording, and maintaining the jumping pits. Other ways for parents and family members to contribute include setting up and packing up equipment, running barbecues, and even undertaking coaching or officiating training to enhance their understanding of athletics.
Join Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre today and become part of a vibrant, inclusive community dedicated to the growth and development of young athletes.
