Established over 30 years ago, the Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club (SCGFC) is a sports club located in Sunshine Coast, Australia. With a strong emphasis on club spirit, education, and fishing determination, the SCGFC has earned the reputation as Australia's most successful Tag and Release Game Fishing Club in recent history.
Originally founded to promote game fishing in the region, the club has grown into a world-recognised institution with a diverse membership. Life Members, as well as representatives from organisations such as IGFA, GFAA, QGFA, and Conservation, contribute to the club's strength and reputation. Additionally, honorary members from around the country and across the globe further enrich the SCGFC community.
The SCGFC welcomes new members and encourages them to expand their fishing horizons, both locally and internationally. The club is committed to educating its members and helping them develop their skills. The emphasis on juniors within the club is particularly notable, with many young members achieving state and national records thanks to the support and mentorship of their fellow SCGFC members.
Monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month at the club's base, the Kawana Waters Hotel. These gatherings provide opportunities for members to share knowledge, discuss fishing techniques, and build camaraderie. In addition to regular meetings, the SCGFC organises two tournaments per year. The Spring Shootout in October marks the start of the billfish season, followed by the February Classic.
These events offer members a chance to showcase their skills and enjoy the abundant fishing opportunities on the Sunshine Coast, all while fostering a spirit of friendship and fun.
Regardless of boat size, the SCGFC caters to all members. Many of the club's boats have been leading Tag and Release boats in Australia, and the SCGFC takes pride in sharing the expertise of these experienced skippers with all members. The club actively fosters a welcoming environment, where anglers of all ages and skill levels can fish alongside more experienced members. This approach ensures that the SCGFC has as many skilled anglers on the water as possible.
The SCGFC committee, members, and sponsors eagerly welcome new members into the SCGFC family. With its rich tradition, commitment to education, and impressive record in tag and release game fishing, the SCGFC offers a unique opportunity for fishing enthusiasts to join a vibrant and supportive community.
