Sunraysia Gliding Club Inc, located in Mildura Rural City, is a vibrant and exciting sports club that offers affordable and thrilling sport aviation experiences. Established in 1954, the club has a rich history of flying in the Mildura district, providing hundreds of student pilots and first-time flyers with the opportunity to soar above the picturesque landscape.
The club operates from its own airfield just outside of Mildura, Victoria. With a large fleet of gliders, the club is always ready to accommodate those wishing to experience the joy and freedom of gliding. Whether you're a beginner looking for an introductory flight or an experienced pilot wanting to hone your skills, Sunraysia Gliding Club has something for everyone.
The club's fleet includes the IS28B-2 VH-GCN, a primary training two-seat glider that is fully aerobatic and certified to +5. 5 -2. 7G. This glider is perfect for ab initio training and offers a safe and reliable experience.
The Twin Astir VH-IKU, acquired from a private owner in Waikerie, serves as a second training two-seater and offers increased performance over the IS28. It is used for both ab initio and cross country training. The LS3A VH-WUQ, ordered new from the Rolladen Schneider factory in 1979, is the club's performance single-seater. It is highly competitive in club class competitions and is a joy to fly.
Finally, the Astir CS VH-GDJ, previously owned by a club syndicate, completes the fleet and adds another dimension to the club's offerings.
The club is proud to have a team of experienced and dedicated instructors who are passionate about sharing the thrill of gliding with others. Led by Chief Flying Instructor David Nugent and supported by Ian Benning and Adrian Ginn, the instructors ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all members and visitors.
Sunraysia Gliding Club is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and has recently installed a solar power system at the club, thanks to the support of the Mildura Rural City Council. This system will contribute to the sustainability of the club for at least 25 years.
