About
Rugby League started at St. Charles over 70 years ago with the Christian Brothers who ran the senior College at the present site going to the old Intermediate Level or Year 9 as it is now. With the Christian Brothers closing due to the nearby proximity of Waverley College in the early 1960s, football became dormant for a short period of time before again starting up with participation in the South Sydney Convent Schools Competition.
The children originally played in the colours of blue and grey with a rabbit on the jumper. In 1971 we, along with the other convent schools in the area were invited back to play in a newly started Eastern Suburbs schoolboys Association. In 1992 due to declining numbers we were integrated in a combined competition with the South Sydney junior League. We had returned to where we first played Junior League.
St Charles is the only school competing in the South Sydney Junior League and this year comprises boys from St. Charles, Waverley College, St. Margaret Marys, Holy Cross, Cranbrook School, Scots College, Newington, Waverley Public, St Therese Mascot, Double Bay Public, Milperra Public, Matraville Sports High, Clovelly Public, Paddington Public, Bronte Public, St Brigid's Coogee, St Josephs Rockdale, St Francis Paddington, Cronulla Public, South Coogee Public, St Aloysius Cronulla, Marcellin College, OLSH Randwick, Galilee Primary School, Holy Cross Rose Bay Secondary, Our Lady of Fatima Cronulla and Champagnat Catholic College Pagewood.
